MINERAL RESOURCE
EXPLORATION
The
information collected during exploration is very important as it is utilised to
evaluate the size and quality of an ore deposit and to establish the
possibility of economically mining the resource. Exploration is divided into
two phases: (1). Reconnaissance Exploration and (2). Detailed Exploration.
(1). Reconnaissance is the preliminary
examination of general geological features and characteristics of a region in
pursuit of economic deposits.
(2). Detailed surface exploration is
undertaken when we need to describe and delineate anomalies in their natural
environment to further zoom in on the ore deposit.
Some of the methods that we use in exploration
to find new deposits: boulder exploration, geological mapping, geophysical
surveys, geochemical sampling and drilling.
